Though most populations in non westernized countries show an average age increase and distribution of blood pressure values similar to those people within western countries, there are specific racial variations which prove to have some fascinating comparisons with each other.
Many population studies which have been carried out in the West Indies and African type countries show a specific similar proportion of hypertensive sufferers among both black and caucasian people. However some of the studies which have been proved over and over again indicate that there are a considerably higher percentage of hypertension type illnesses among black people.
Strangely this result contrasts strongly with studies carried out in India where the number of people who suffer from hypertensive type diseases is comparatively small.
In some Eastern and African communities, it has been found in other population studies that an average type blood pressure show a negligible tendency to rise with age; and for those who's blood pressure is slightly higher than the norm in their society, it has been found it never reaches a danger level as it does with their caucasian counterparts especially those who live in westernized countries.
Examples of these low blood pressure type communities include African nomads, West African Bushmen, and inhabitants of specific islands in the Northern Cook Islands. There is some interesting speculation that the diet and lifestyles related to these areas could have a great deal to do with these results. This includes the specific type of exercise these people take and also of course the complete lack of stress they suffer in relation to their more westernized counterparts.
Many pharmaceutical companies are now "going back to nature" to discover what it is in these types of environments to help these people sustain such excellent blood pressure levels, as it is assumed the cause could be an organic one such as the indigenous plants which the native people consume.
However when looking at these people, it can be seen straight away by this author why they appear to be so healthy.
For a start, very little saturated fat is consumed by these indigenous people and they think nothing of walking several miles every day. Life for them is much simpler, with scarcely any stress and very little of the trappings of western culture, and it is very rare to see someone from this type of culture who is obese.
The incidence of heart disease and diabetes is also much lower in this kind of community, though it has been discovered that a culture that has been previously healthy soon shows signs of modern day disease if they decide to embrace the westernized style of life.
